WENDY CHAN, LEED AP

Wendy Chan is about place-making and re-imagining public spaces for the people who are connected to a site or neighborhood. Her interest defines how she investigates design solutions and her attention to quality construction documents. Her professionalism and successful management of projects makes her a valuable member of the AHBE team.

Jim Hellinger, RLA

Jim Hellinger is a landscape architect with nearly twenty-years of experience in project management, construction management, and administration. He strives for the highest quality built work by using effective industry standard methods. His professional experience is varied and includes public works projects, historic preservations, institutional clients, retail projects, commercial projects, hospitality work, and single family private estates. Jim is proud to have had a key role in the first built “green roof” in Southern California and has since contributed to a number of LEED certified projects.

Kiku Kurahashi

Kiku Kurahashi incorporates the environmental, social and cultural considerations of individual communities into her projects. Her consensus-building design approach and knowledge of sustainable design practices are assets she brings to every project, particularly community-based projects.

Gary Lai, RLA, ASLA, SITES AP BD+C

Gary Lai has worked on projects ranging from transportation, recreation, and natural resource planning, to exterior site development for healthcare, civic and large commercial projects. He has extensive experience in site sustainability issues particularly in water-related sustainable design, which includes low-flow and recycled water irrigation systems as well as watershed and stormwater runoff issues. Gary is also deeply involved in the local professional sustainability community.

Jennifer Salazar, RLA, ASLA

A licensed landscape architect and project manager, Jennifer Salazar has worked to improve the Los Angeles urban environment through landscape infrastructure and infill projects. Her experience with complete streets, public transit corridors, retail and open space brings a wealth of knowledge to public and private projects. Jennifer provides a full breadth of understanding to each project, from planning and conceptual design through construction documentation and administration. She also serves as a co-editor and contributor for AHBE Lab, the firm's daily blog.

Darren Shirai, RLA, ASLA

Darren Shirai has been practicing landscape architecture for over twenty years, with experience on a range of projects located in Southern California and internationally. His award-winning designs integrate a unique multi–disciplinary point of view that provides consideration for each community’s social, cultural, and economic factors. Having led the design of numerous projects, he has developed the critical observation and decision-making skills necessary for delivering environmentally-sensitive solutions for urban projects of all sizes and scope of work.

Donna Thompson

Donna Thompson brought sixteen years of accounting and managerial experience to AHBE when she joined the firm. Each day, she oversees all of the firm's general operations and accounts. Her persistence and attention to detail has made her  integral to our firm's success.

Jennifer Zell, RLA, ASLA

Jenni Zell is interested in the integration of natural processes and cultural systems through landscape architecture. Her experience includes the design and planning of a broad range of civic and private spaces, from residential and commercial landscapes to public open spaces. Jenni is also a writer, with published articles in Landscape Architecture Magazine and Urban Land.
