The design for this new charter high school met the challenge of fitting 30,000 sq. ft. of classroom, administrative, outdoor spaces and parking on a narrow one-acre site. Despite the busy streets surrounding the school property and its proximity to the Hollywood Freeway, a pair of colorful industrial-inspired buildings manages to block out street sounds and provide sun control, while also creating spaces for outdoor activities and pedestrian circulation. Classrooms open onto an inner courtyard which serves as the school’s social hub.
