This new 4-story hotel with street-level retail and underground parking is located across from the historic Palisades Park, a 26-acre park nestled atop the Pacific Ocean bluffs.
AHBE Landscape Architects designed the hotel's private courtyard, pool and spa deck, public plaza and entry drive. The pool deck, plaza and entry drive are all on-structure spaces. AHBE's overall design is about the transition from the coastal landscape to the urban environment. We brought elements of Palisades Park into our design for a public courtyard to represent the idea of extending the ocean bluffs into the city: from the use of sedimentary wall planters to the bluff-colored stone and an all-native coastal sage plant palette. A water feature design consists of a runnel system extending from inside the hotel to the public plaza. Other unique features incorporate an infiltration tank and retention basin beneath the private courtyard to harvest water runoff and control stormwater.
