Calvin Abe, FASLA, RLA

Calvin Abe established the firm in 1987 and has more than 30 years of professional experience in a wide range of landscape architectural and urban design projects. He is noted for his ability to transform conceptual design ideas into creative and artful built forms. He is a team player and works closely with consulting architects and designers to formulate innovative and technically sound ideas.


Calvin Abe is a California registered landscape architect. He received his Master of Landscape Architecture degree from Harvard University Graduate School of Design and his Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. In addition to his practice, Calvin has lectured, taught, and served as a visiting critic for landscape architecture programs at Southern California's colleges. He participates in a wide range of professional organizations as a member, conference speaker, and board executive. Calvin is also an artist who is currently exploring photography as a medium for seeing the beauty in landscape and the world.

Linda Daley has been a leader in all aspects of the firm's practice, from project and studio management to strategic planning and business development. She joined the firm in 1998 as a marketing coordinator while pursuing her studies in landscape architecture. The position gave her an entree into the design profession after a long career in corporate marketing and strategic planning. She leveraged and integrated her earlier business career into her design profession, helping to build the firm's reputation for design excellence, establishing its market position, and contributing to its financial health. As Managing Principal, Linda is responsible for the day-to-day management of the firm, which includes her oversight of marketing and operations. Linda Daley became an Owner in 2015. She provides the leadership that continues the firm's work in creating a healthier future for the planet.

As a Principal and Owner, Evan Mather builds upon AHBE’s experience in landscape infrastructure, water quality, conservation, and environmental performance. He has led several award-winning projects, including Johnny Carson Park Revitalization and the Burbank Water and Power EcoCampus, which earned a Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES™) certification in 2013. Evan fuses site context, sustainable design, and storytelling into the creation of community spaces, no matter the project type. He advocates the use of research to identify new design technologies that inform the firm’s sustainable design framework and standards. His stand on technology includes the integration of information technologies and multimedia into AHBE’s design process. Recognized for his use of film and video to communicate the complexities of landscape architecture to a broad audience, he has created many feature films and short films on the subject.



Gary Lai transforms public landscapes with a focus on water issues that make a difference for the social and ecological health of cities. He addresses watershed and stormwater runoff issues, natural resource planning, water-efficient irrigation systems, and other site sustainable design solutions for a broad range of projects, including transportation, recreation, healthcare, civic, commercial. Gary is also deeply involved in the local professional sustainability community.
