Crafton Hills College Phase 1 Expansions

Owner: San Bernardino Community College District

Architect/AHBE Client: Steinberg Architects

Crafton Hills College’s 523-acre campus is nestled in the foothills of Southern California’s San Bernardino Mountains. AHBE first began its work with the College in 2005 when, as a member of a multi-disciplined team, we collaborated with Steinberg Architects on the development of a twenty-year campus master plan. The first phase of the master plan’s implementation addressed the College’s utility infrastructure needs, circulation improvements, and a campus expansion with upgraded facilities. The resulting landscape design successfully connects the new and historical parts of the campus, provides vertical transitions and pedestrian accessibility for this hilly campus, and creates unique landscapes for the various new outdoor spaces. AHBE’s overall design creates a sustainable campus landscape for this growing community college and uses landscape infrastructure to meet the functional and aesthetic goals identified in the master plan.
